I (almost) lost my job to Covid-19

There’s no way around this. As a contractor/freelancer my job is in no way safe even at the best of times. That’s why I command the obscene day rate I do. I can be dropped with a week’s notice. With a contract ending this month, I was put on notice that my client may not renew. And frankly in the days of Covid, why would they?

The Twilight saga: setting women back 50 years

Happy 10th anniversary, Twilight! Ten years ago this week – on my birthday no less – the first instalment of the Twilight Saga hit theatres. Adapted from Stephanie Meyer’s four part series of novels, it has been said- although denied by Meyer – to be a religious allegory for a God is my boyfriend, absence only lifestyle. That should have told us all we needed to know about the series’ values, but we were too captivated by the sparkle to listen.

Three months in, he broke his leg

I haven’t written here in a few weeks but let me tell you. MUCH has happened. It looks like I haven’t even covered the Croatia trip. As mentioned, Theo and I were set to visit the Eastern European beach nation a few weeks ago. After three straight weekends of him travelling to Frankfurt, Ibiza and St Tropez consecutively, it was our time to travel. The day before we were scheduled to fly I received a WhatsApp from him: “So, I think we may have a problem”.

I’m haunted, what can I say?

This is a weird one.

I’m writing this in a Gmail New Message box because I’m at work and don’t want to make it look like I’m slacking. I’m not. It’s a slow day.

I’m not even sure how to start today’s post. Initially I wanted to focus on the fact that the past two “relationships” I’ve been in have ended in ghosting, but I think this theme is far more complex than that.

I’ve often cited our first date as the worst first date of all time, but despite that, I still went on to (seriously) date the guy.
